  • Thoughtful Blog

Normally the contents of my blogging does not extend past ramblings on my life events, but today I feel inspired. I was reading the paper this morning and saw that one of the county funded drug rehab centers is being closed down due to budget cuts. It is not surprising due to the crappy situation California has gotten itself in. But it got me thinking about these types of programs in general, we tend to expect the government to provide these services and not charge for them because we pay sooo many taxes. While all these programs are being cut and tossed away, where are the churches stepping in? What better time for the church as a whole to get in gear and act out the love of Christ? I think when it comes to social outreach the church as a whole has seriously slacked off. Jesus not only spent time with "untouchables" he dined and touched them. Yet most Christians would absolutely flip out if a dirty homeless person came into their church on a sunday. How sad and narrow minded of us! This is not meant to bash on any particular local church, but to spark thought in those who have not considered the wide range of people they are not reaching. As Christians we need to constantly examine ourselves and find ways to improve and serve better. I think if the church really stepped it up in the realm of social services, that the government could focus on its own crap.

I am proud of the steps my church has taken to at least feed the hungry on a monthly basis with our food pantry. Granted we aren't located in an area that has a high population of homeless.
